Swept up in the craziness...

Pete, do you like Nicki Minaj? I can't figure out if she is the kind of popette you would like?

I haven't been too interested in her before today - she collaborated with Will.I.Am (cardinal sin of making listenable music)and seemed to be a little too kooky without any discernable talent to back her up.
But i am backflipping on my decision. Yes, I am fickle - one week i'll hate something, and the next I'll be playing it non-stop at work, much to the dismay of my long suffering work colleague Jon.

I stumbled accross her single "Moment 4 Life" which I L.O.V.E. It features Drake (Like!), it has a cute film clip in which she plays and references many of her alter-ego's (Like!) and it sounds like an old school RnB song which someone like Tweet, Keyshia Cole or Aliyah would make (Like!).

Have you read about her alter-ego's? Apparently she had a rough childhood (after moving up in the world from Trinidad to Queens) and as a coping mechanism she created "characters" (reference: Sasha Fierce, Slim Shady, Lady Gaga) - one called Roman Zolanski (her "evil twin sister"), Martha Zolanski (Her "mother" who appears in the Moment 4 Life clip as her Fairy Godmother and who has a British Accent which sounds like it's been gleaned from watching too much AbFab)and Harajuku Barbie.

To me, Minaj could easily be the love child of Gwen Stefani and Lil' Kim (a creation whom I, for one, would welcome into the world!). Or, she could be seen as a less serious, more interesting and not as predicable Lady Gaga.

In any case, she has captured my imagination for the moment and I have listened to Moment 4 Life approximately 25 times today already.

Hope you LIKE!

Pete: Sarah, I love Moment 4 Life too. I wasn't convinced by her first single Your Love (which sampled Annie Lennox's No More I Love You's), but she has won me over. I'm also facinated in these alter egos – do they only come out in her videos? I think her look is interesting too - more polished than Lady Gaga.
I remember reading she had a big beef with Lil Kim.

Kimbra! I'm in luurve...

I have a serious girl crush on Kimbra right now - she's so smokin hot! (I feel like a slight failure as she is something like 7 years younger than me - but I am enjoying her music so much that the feeling is fleeting).

Pete: While I maintain you are a better singer (and cuter), I love Kimbra on Miami Horror's I look To You. You have introduced me to so much amazing music lately (The XX, Gypsy & the Cat), please don't stop!!

Lady Gaga denied permission for this?

Seriously?

Take a listen to Wierd Al Yankovic's cover of Born This Way which Lady Gaga said no to. Frankly this is pretty tame and kinda flattering. What a boring kill joy.

Sarah: OOHHH EEEMM GEEE!!! That is so brilliant and hilarious!!!! That is possibly my fav Weird Al Yankovic song yet. My fav part is when he talks about how she starts new trends - and the next one will be to wrap her small intestine around her neck and set herself on fire on stage. HAHA!

This proves that Gaga takes herself too seriously, which is a damn shame because if all the attention seeking weirdness was light hearted she would probably have alot more fans!

Lykke Li to be covered on Glee!

Inspired choice. This actually makes me like Glee more (or I guess at all). I just hope they don't make it into a inspiring hip hop mash up - yuk. Keep it dark and moody.

Can this album be any better!

Here is a great interview from Nymag. I love how she says they made her watch the second Twilight film. She also lets slip that Alexander Skarsgard is in the new video for Sadness is a Blessing.

Sarah: I'm excited for her new film clip! But let it be known that I am physically allergic (in every sense of the word) to GLEE. I will not watch it. Sorry! *(And if history repeats they will probably murder I Follow Rivers! Noooooo!).
p.s. I just listened to it on You Tube. They pretty much copied the song exactly - only difference is the singers voice (and the difference is a lack or real emotion.) Apart from that - nothing changed! Do you like it?

Updated: B-Day for Sarah

Say hello to new music from Beyonce.

So what do you think??

Sarah: Boo Hoo! The clip was taken down :( The song is called "Girls (who rule the world) and it's fierce! (well, what i've heard of it is!).

Love the dance audition clips on You Tube too...

I've decided this is very early-Destiny's Child. Did she write this herself? (Hahahaha)

Sarah: Wow, it's not as good as I thought it would be? Then again I totally hated Single Ladies the first 100 times I heard it, but I love it now.

I am feeling you on the "early DC" in this song. Kind of dissappointing? We all know the film clip is going to be kick arse tho - can't wait to see it (and learn the choreography, and perform the choreography upon request at parties). :)

Frivolous Friday

Can you believe this is carine at 18 years old? Stunning! No wonder she looks so good at 56 years old (below). Yes, you read right - 56 years old! Amazing.

I loved the interview with Carine in 10 Magazine where shesaid that being Chic is something that cannot be learned - it's an attitude. So true. I also love those shoes. Julia and Carine - bringing the Double Fab to the front row
Julia Restoin-Roitfeld's "Library". Small, non?
This is Julia Restoin-Roitfelds Wardrobe - shoe section.

It's Friday! I'm feeling inspired and loving all things pleasing to the eye, so I have been scrolling through some of my favourite blogs - and have re-posted some of my fav images so far.

I also stumbled across a crazy fan blog - I Want To Be A Roitfeld. (http://www.iwantotbearoitfeld.com/ ) Have you ever seen it before? I'm mesmerized - and I love it! (Me? Stalker? Perhaps.)

Have a good one. x

Peter: I loved that article from 10 too, but i think your post is even more fascinating (if not voyeristic). It was a great read. What I loved were the many amazing insights. I kept nodding in agreement - the no clutter at home, the mixing of black with navy (which i do all the time), the hatred of Crocs. In fact, I used that exact quote in a Westfield style guide I wrote (long story!). Can't wait to see her new Barneys campaign - I think we will have to make a pilgramage to New York.

Rihanna: Who's that augmented chick

This explains so much.

Sarah: WOW. That blows my mind. I am so inspired by crazy industry types who understand how to use modern culture to sell their product in the most creative (and cheap) way! Excellent post Pete!

Hot Pop Covers of Rolling Stone

W-O-W-Z-E-R! HELLO RHIANNA on the cover of the Rolling Stone! I can't actually remember how I stumbled across this picture but Hot Dang could the girl be any hotter?

I remember Rolling Stone being quite Rock n Roll and was lamenting to myself how, even though this cover is smokin' hot, Rolling Stone has sold out to Pop stars - and it all started with Britney and that damn telephone.

Then I did some research (which consisted of my typing "Hot Pop Cover of Rolling Stone" into google image search. Turns out Pop stars have been perverting Rolling Stone's Rock n Roll veneer for some time now (at best - Janet Jackson. At worst - Justin Beiber).

Here are some of my favourites :) (yes, I know Gaga is in there and I don't like her - but I do like that cover!)

UPDATED: Bitch Stole Sarah's look AGAIN!

The Good: Beyoncé returns to her African roots: the shoot is Beyoncé and L'Officiel's tribute to Fela Kuti, the Nigerian musician and human rights activist whose music inspired Beyoncé's upcoming album.

The Bad: Beyonce's face was voluntarily darkened – why?

The Ugly: Beyonce posed in a dress created by her mother – why?

Sarah: I. Love. IT! Peter, I would never have known that this dress was the creation of Stage Mother Number 1 (otherwise known as Mrs. Knowles). I love the dress. I love the dark face (she's probably had no sun for months, I feel her pain! I would love to be digitally darkened in the middle of winter...). I love the cause. I love this woman! Now, to learn to speak French so I can love the magazine too... Peter: The dress featured on the cover is not actually a House of Diarrhea Dereon dress. They saved that one for inside the issue (good call). And the dark face is full on Lara Stone black. Having said that, the shoot is pretty inspired. I reckon you would rock this look.

Sarah: ARRGGHH!!! WTF? I hate the black face (question - is black face offensive if a black person does it? Discuss.). And I HATE the House of Dereon dress! Tina Knowles - put down your scissors!!! Belugh! I do love the head gear though - I would love to rock those looks (except for the Dereon one. Gross).

And then this from Mamma Knowles...

Girl Crush!

OH EM GEE. I have a girl crush! Indonesian model Fahrani Empel is my new model obsession! I first saw her in the Cassette Society Summer 10 catalogue pics - and have since stalked her ass all over the internet. She is amazing! Tattooed from here to there, all legs and attitude - complete with half a shaved head and a cigarette for breakfast (I'm assuming). Love. Her.

I am now growing then straightening my hair, booking an appointment with my tattooist, going for the worlds longest run and taking up smoking.

Jokes.

Enjoy!

Goodbye Golden Era of Hollywood.

You know what; I'm going to admit that I'm not a obsessed fan of Elizabeth Taylor. I haven't seen all her films. I haven't read her book. I don't wear her perfume (she has one right? Surely...).

But I felt her loss when she died last week as it marks the end of The Golden Era of Hollywood.

As a fellow lover of fashion, glamour, beauty and class I know that you appreciate all that the Golden Era had to offer. Manners. Women who looked polished and pristine. Amazing clothes. Men who dressed up - always. Sigh. Elizabeth Taylor was one of the last living icons of that generation. Do you think we will ever see anything like it again? (Dita Von Teese doesn't count, sorry.)

Thanks for your contribution Elizabeth Taylor! You were beautiful. (photo by Richard Avedon)

I'M BAAAAAAACK!

Hello! I'm back! Thank you so much for keeping the blog HOT whilst I was on a self imposed exile from the media of this world. I am feeling refreshed, re-inspired and ready to jump back in.

During my break I did such unheard of things as read books, excersise, have conversations and play board games. It was invigorating and good for my brain (I even invented a new game involving a dictionary and a group of friends. If you're interested in how it works, let me know...).

All the above mentioned activities have lead me to appreciate and have a new respect for media and how we use and abuse it.

Cheers - to us!

x

Pete: Good to have you back. It was never the same without you. Now what is this game??
